Students as Neighbours

One of the best ways students can help their community and can escape the student bubble is by volunteering. Both Universities and Student Unions in Bristol work hard to make sure there are opportunities available and projects running to benefit the wider Bristol Community.

University of Bristol Students’ Union

SCA  (Student Community Action)

Student Community Action is the largest volunteering organisation at the University of Bristol Union, with over 1,000 members helping out in and around the community.

Projects are at the heart of SCA. SCA operates 36 projects in the community, covering an enormous variety of subjects and types of work, ranging from putting on workshops in schools to helping out in the Julian Trust Nightshelter in St Pauls.

SCA also hold one off events such as the ‘Elderly Dinner Dance’ where residents from local retirement homes are invited to the Students’ Union for dinner and entertainment.

RAG (Raise and Give)

Both Student Unions have their own RAGs. RAG is a student activity that involves students fundraising for local and national charities. They do this through community work, events, and through street collections. Every year the student RAGs in Bristol raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity!
